Mount Jackson (Mittersill Ski Area), NH
October 18, 2003

After nearly two months since my last hike, I finally found a free weekend in which the weather cooperated to make a final hike of the season before the snow starts falling.  Well, actually...  while the snow was falling!  When I opened my car door at the Mittersill Resort, I was greeted by several small snow flakes making their way to Earth.  I reconsidered my hike for a moment; however, the weather seemed fine and a snow storm did not seem imminent.  So I embarked on an exploration of the Lost Mittersill Ski Area.

My mission was three fold:  First, I was to have a pleasant afternoon hike with excellent views of the Franconia Ridge before hiking season ended.  Secondly, I wanted to document the Lost Ski Area on camera.  But most importantly, I was scouting out secret and hidden skiing lines for the winter!  I found numerous overt and covert delights while trekking around the mountain.  While hiking around Mittersill, I did indeed find several hidden stashes.  One of which eliminates the need for a traverse or hike back to the Cannon base area through linking up with the new beginners area!

Without further ado, I present a photo exhibit on my findings at Mittersill.  In the secret stash tradition, I will not say where the hand cut stashes are, but would be willing to show any one skiing with me.  Email is at the bottom of the page.
